Hellebore - Winter Rose
Hellebore, also known as Winter Rose, blooms in New Zealand's dark winter months, offering a quiet promise spring is near.
Named for its notorious use as a poison, the word ‘Hellebore’ derives from the Greek ‘Helleborus,’ meaning ‘to harm’ and ‘food.’ Steeped in myth and folklore, its history spans from Greek battlefields—where it was used to poison water supplies—to the cauldrons of witches who believed it could grant flight or invisibility.
'Hellebore - Winter Rose' is depicted in the style of the Old Masters, with moody and dramatic lighting capturing its true essence as it emerges from the shadows—bringing it to life on your walls and inviting the viewer to come a bit closer.
