After photographing Sarah B Peony for my fine art peony print collection, I felt compelled to bring it to life in oil paint.

A labour of love created over months of layering, refining and slowly building the bloom into life. This piece explores the delicate balance of light, contrast, and form. Layers of petals unfold softly in the light and recede into shadow, set against a deep indigo background — a luxurious contrast that enhances the bloom’s sculptural beauty.

It’s a painting that invites you to pause and step back, revealing its depth and harmony from a little distance. By day it feels light and luminous; by night, the contrast deepens - a statement piece that transforms with the light.
